Trigonometric Parallaxes of Massive Star Forming Regions : II . Cep A & NGC 7538
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report trigonometric parallaxes for the sources NGC 7538 and Cep A, corresponding to distances of 2.65 −0.11 kpc and 0.70 +0.04 −0.04 kpc, respectively. The distance to NGC 7538 is considerably smaller than its kinematic distance and places it in the Perseus spiral arm. The distance to Cep A is also smaller than its kinematic distance and places it in the “Local” arm or spur. Combining the distance and proper motions with observed radial velocities gives the location and full space motion of the star forming regions. We find significant deviations from circular Galactic orbits for these sources: both sources show large peculiar motions (> 10 km s) counter to Galactic rotation and NGC 7538 has a comparable peculiar motion toward the Galactic center. Subject headings: techniques: interferometric — masers — stars: distances — ISM: individual (NGC 7538, Cepheus A) — Galaxy: structure

High Resolution Mid-infrared Spectroscopy of Ngc 7538 Irs 1: Probing Chemistry in a Massive Young Stellar Object
We present high resolution (R = 75,000–100,000) mid-infrared spectra of the high-mass embedded young star IRS 1 in the NGC 7538 star-forming region. Absorption lines from many rotational states of C2H2, CCH2, CH3, CH4, NH3, HCN, HNCO, and CS are seen. The gas temperature, column density, covering factor, line width, and Doppler shift for each molecule are derived. All molecules were fit with tw...
متن کاملA Near-infrared Study of the Ngc 7538 Star-forming Region
We present subarcsecond (FWHM 0B7), near-infrared (NIR) JHKs-band images and a high-sensitivity radio continuum image at 1280 MHz, using SIRIUS on the University of Hawaii 88 inch (2.2 m) telescope and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The NIR survey covers an area of 24 arcmin with 10 limiting magnitudes of 19.5, 18.4, and 17.3 in the J, H, and Ks bands, respectively. Our NIR images ...

We present sub-arcsecond (FWHM ∼ 0 ′′ .7), near-infrared (NIR) JHK s-band images and a high sensitivity radio continuum image at 1280 MHz, using SIRIUS on UH 88-inch telescope and GMRT. The NIR survey covers an area of ∼ 24 arcmin 2 with 10 σ limiting magnitudes of ∼ 19.5, 18.4, and 17.3 in J, H, and K s-band, respectively. Our NIR images are deeper than any JHK surveys to date for the larger a...

We are conducting a large program with the NRAO Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) to measure trigonometric parallaxes of massive star-forming regions across the Milky Way. Here we report measurement of the parallax and proper motion of methanol masers in S 252 and G232.6+1.0. The parallax of S 252 is 0.476 ± 0.006 mas (2.10 −0.026 kpc), placing it in the Perseus spiral arm. The parallax of G232.6...
متن کاملVLBI observations of 6.7 and 12.2 GHz methanol masers toward high mass star-forming regions
We present VLBI observations of 6.7 and 12.2 GHz methanol masers in 14 star-forming regions, namely NGC 7538, S 252, W 75N, W 48, G 31.28+0.06, S 231, S 255, S 269, Mon R2, G 9.62+0.20, Cep A, W 51, G 59.78+0.06 and G 29.950.02. In 10 of these sources, the methanol masers show elongated morphologies in the VLBI map and exhibit linear velocity gradients. These linear structures have lengths of 5...
